Derby City General Hospital (DCGH) is one of two teaching hospitals in the city of Derby, the other being the Derbyshire Royal Infimary. The two hospitals are part of a single NHS Foundation Trust. The hospital is currently undergoing a massive rebuild, doubling the size of the buildings. This modern facility has 1139 beds of which 30% are single occupancy rooms as well as 35 operating theatres. More than 300 consultants and 7,000 nurses and other staff provide medical care to for a local population of approximately 660,000 people and subspecialty populations of over 1 million patients. The hospitals are major teaching centres through both the Derby Medical School and the University of Nottingham.
The cities A+E department is currently sited at the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary but will transfer to the City Hospital site in 2009, complete with Helipad.
